Speedflex Q&A - Sonia Brady - Speedflex

Speedflex Q&A – Sonia Brady

18th April 2019

This Spring we’re going from dreaming of being down under, to dreaming of steaks and burgers as we get better acquainted with Cork’s Speedflex Trainer, Sonia!

Who is your hero/who do you look up to?

It would be very hard for me to say I have a hero but I admire a few different people for their different qualities and achievements. No one is perfect, even if they seem it, so it would be better to learn from many!

Firstly my mam, she has always been there for me no matter how tough I may have been and does an awful lot for me, so I hope I can be half the person she is.

Being a sports fan I admire the commitment and discipline of amateur and professional sports players. As a rugby fan I like Paul O’Connell and Donncha O’Callaghan for their achievements and commitments while also seeming to be down to earth people.

Also as a previous female sports participant I greatly admire the ladies of all sports who make all the same commitments, while not always getting the same support as all other athletes.

Where in the world would you most like to visit?

Right now I would love to visit Australia. I have never been and I have two friends living over there in Sydney and Melbourne at the moment, so it would be great to see them and see another part of the world at the same time. I hope I am able to travel a little bit, or just have a few exotic holidays in the years to come! Anywhere with sun first!

What’s your favourite film and song?

Right now I love the song “Everything I Need” by Skylar Grey from the Aquaman movie. It’s not a song I would be playing in Speedflex (too slow!) but I could belt out a few lines of it if I’m in the car by myself!

I haven’t got an absolute favourite film but thinking now I do like “Never Back Down.” I think it is my sports background that makes me enjoy it and I have watched it so many times!

If you could have any job in the world, which one would you choose?

Something that involves travelling. I would love to see more of the world and sure, if I could get paid while doing it, that would be ideal! Somewhere with sun and heat preferably!

What’s the best piece of advice anybody has given you?

“Believe in your abilities” I’m not the most confident person but I try to do my best at everything I do. Sometimes I want to be a perfectionist which can hinder me when it comes to trying new things as I think I can’t do them.

No matter what, I think everyone can be unsure of certain things so it is important we support/help each other and be positive. That brings me to another motto; “feel the fear and do it anyway.” If an opportunity arises grab it with both hands and go with it, never regret not taking a chance!

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could choose three things to have, what would they be?

I would like to have a tent or something for shelter, supplies to help me start a fire (don’t think I would be great at it by myself) and drinking water. And I would enjoy the peace and quiet for a while and worry about getting off after a few days!

You’re hosting a dinner party and can invite any three people (dead or alive) who would you invite and why?

Honestly it would have to be my 3 grandparents that have passed away. Family is a big part of my life so to have them all around the dinner table again would be the best! Now to make for a more interesting answer, if the dinner table was a bit bigger, and I could chose 3 more and be a bit more adventurous I would pick Donncha O’Callaghan (always loved him as a player), Ed Sheeran for a bit of musical entertainment and Brendan Grace for a few laughs. I went to see him when I was very small so it would be great to have him there too.

What one item would you want to save if your house was on fire?

If every person and my dog was out of the house, after that, it would be old photo albums. In recent years I’ve realised how important it is to print photos. I have photos of times that I will always remember but I love looking back to when I was a child or at photos of the family from when I wasn’t even born yet!

If they were lost they wouldn’t be replaceable. Technology is great because we can retrieve photos if needed but I still like to have them printed in an album and be able to flick through them.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Oh that’s a tough one! I love my food so narrowing it down to one thing is a tough one! But I suppose when I am out to eat, I would usually order a steak or a burger as I wouldn’t cook them much for myself at home. So it would have to be one of those, with something on the side of course!

For you, what’s the best thing about training at Speedflex?

My training is irregular so with Speedflex it is always great to be able to jump into a session and be able to have a great workout no matter what stage of training I’m at! Whether it’s when my training is in full flow, when training for an event or coming back from injury, I can guarantee to get a great session. In general I love sessions because you are in for 30 or 45 minutes, told what to do and then out the door and done for the day!
