Studio Machine trainer manual
The Speedflex Studio Machine is designed for supervised, instructor-led sessions. This manual covers set-up and safety, running a Speedflex studio, ready-made class templates, the approved exercise library, maintenance and support. For an overview of the machine, see the Studio Machine page.
1. Set up and safety
Studio environment safety
Before each class:
- Ensure clear space around each machine
- Check all arms return smoothly to the resting position
- Confirm the floor is dry and unobstructed
- Brief participants on movement standards
The machine does not move unless moved by the user, reducing the risk of accidental activation.
Preparing to move
Before starting:
- Stand centrally on the mat in front of the machine.
- Adopt an athletic stance (feet shoulder-width apart unless instructed otherwise).
- Engage your core before initiating movement.
- Start with controlled repetitions before increasing speed or intensity.
Resistance and controls
The Studio Machine uses force-generated resistance powered by hydraulics. Intensity is manipulated by:
- Speed of movement
- Force production
- Range of motion
- Coaching cues
This lets instructors scale sessions easily within mixed-ability groups. For example:
- Beginners: slower tempo, controlled range
- Intermediate: increased speed and dynamic transitions
- Advanced: explosive effort and extended intervals
The instructor controls the intensity, not weight selection.
Grip and body position
Grip position influences engagement and comfort.
- Wide grip: promotes upper-back activation; suitable for compound pulling movements.
- Narrow grip: encourages triceps and anterior shoulder engagement; suitable for press variations.
- Neutral grip: reduces shoulder strain and improves wrist alignment; ideal for rehabilitation or beginners.
Instructors should coach:
- Neutral spine
- Controlled breathing
- Full range of motion
- Stable foot placement
Troubleshooting
If a machine does not feel responsive:
- Check for obstructions around the arms
- Ensure the user is applying sufficient force
- Inspect for visible mechanical damage
- Remove the machine from use if abnormal resistance or noise occurs

2. Creating a Speedflex studio experience
Marketing support for your studio launch
The Speedflex team has created a dedicated marketing portal for facilities, at marketing.speedflex.com. It holds everything for the Studio Machine, from user manuals to poster templates and social media tiles to promote sessions and challenges.
If you don’t know your facility’s login details, email sales@speedflex.com and the team will get you set up.
Studios are encouraged to promote: HIIT without the hurt. Low impact. High intensity. Results for everyone.
Inductions
Even in studio-only environments, a short onboarding session is recommended. New members should understand:
- How the resistance responds
- How to control tempo
- Safe movement standards
- How to self-regulate effort
Confidence drives participation and retention.
Studio layout and positioning
The Studio Machine performs best when it is:
- Positioned with adequate side clearance
- Arranged symmetrically for group flow
- Facing the instructor’s focal point
- Integrated into structured class formats
Studios may choose all-Speedflex class formats, hybrid circuits, contrast training blocks or performance sessions.
Class delivery
The Studio Machine thrives in coached formats such as:
- HIIT intervals
- Strength blocks
- Power circuits
- Group training
- Heart-rate based sessions with Myzone
Energy, music and instructor cueing elevate the experience.
